There’s alot of people commenting or posting blog on the recent hot topics, Top scorers fail to get scholarships… I guess this is really nothing new anymore as it’s happening every year… Some even insulted the poor boy for being arrogant during the interview, well, how sure are you? I guess it’s just not right assuming that he flunked his interview with his “ohh, I own the world attitude…” I mean even if he does, he can afford to do that right? He has got the A’s to prove to everyone… More so, we don’t know what happened during the interview, how could you add salt to his wound? Anyway, I have friends who’s a school representative debater, who of course speaks well and obtained 12A1 and 1A2 out of the 13 subjects he took failed to get JPA scholarships in the year we finished SPM. Only after the appeal he got through… So, you know what happened…
There has been a sms spreading around saying that the local uni result is gona be out yesterday, and 20,ooo visitors are attracted to the emoe website just yesterday alone. I guess when the local uni results is out, there will be another news headlines saying that so and so didn’t managed to get into the uni or courses they want despite of the meritocracy system, and then so and so Minister will stand out and show that Bumis stats outnumber the others and he will say that those with 3 syllables name doesn’t performed as well as Bumis and he will say “they should be satisfy with the increased number in the intake of Chinese into local unis”, and that they should keep quiet instead of being ungrateful. This same scenario will be happening years after years… Sometimes I really find that Malaysian education hibllarious. I mean, according to the dictionary, we clearly know that Meritocracy is “A system in which advancement is based on individual ability or achievement”. If it includes quota for different races, is it still meritocracy? No, it isnt as it’s no longer based on individuality ability or achievement anymore. I was being accepted to NUS the top university of Singapore but I don’t even dare to put UM as one of my choices when I fill my form. Anyway, I guess I can’t say so as I’m not having the perfect result.
Anyway, I’m not writing another post on racism, but I’m writing for those local uni’s or local gov website. I really wonder what does the webmaster does everyday… I mean you can just simply go into one of those site, and you will see their design… I’m sure everyone won’t forget JPJ’s flash intro, and tons more. Most of those website especially those local uni website is so Frontpage generated design. I really wonder whether they are still using the Frontpage as their html editor or not. Can’t they just make it webstandard or html valid? ok, that might be too high demand but at least they should make it more interesting, don’t you agree? Like, maybe get a better camera to capture some professional looking photos and edit them properly using Photoshop instead of resizing without even bothering about the photos are distorted with big heads and long body. Some are even blurred because of zoom in resizing of VGA sized photos maybe?
Their feedback and enquire systems are worst either. When I wrote to UM, enquiring their confusing qualifications requirement as quoted,
Ketua Penolong Pendaftar,
Seksyen Kemasukan dan Rekod,
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I’m writing regarding some enquiries in the undergraduate programme
MC01 - Sarjana Muda Teknologi Maklumat. Below is the requirement as
displayed either in the http://www.emoe.gov.my
or
http://202.185.111.137/SKR/UnderG/stpm_tekno_maklumat.htm
1. Lulus dengan sekurang-kurangnya Kepujian dalam salah satu mata
pelajaran berikut di peringkat SPM/setaraf;
• Matematik
• Matematik Tambahan
dan
2. Lulus dengan sekurang-kurangnya Gred C+ (NGMP 2.33) dalam mata
pelajaran Matematik T/Matematik Lanjutan T/Fizik
dan
Gred C+ (NGMP 2.33) dalam salah satu (1) mata pelajaran berikut:
• Matematik T
• Matematik Lanjutan T
• Fizik
• Biologi
• Kimia
• Ekonomi
• Perakaunan
• Perkomputeran
• Pengajian Perniagaan
refering to the 2nd requirement which is Passing at least with a C+
Grade (NGMP 2.33) in the Mathematik T/Matematik Lanjutan/Fizik which
means to say only Science stream students can apply to this courses as
Arts stream students can only take the Matematik S subject.
but looking at the 3rd requirement which is at least a C+ grade in
either one of the following subjects, Arts stream subjects such as
Perakaunan, Ekonomi, Pengajian Perniagaan which only the Arts stream
students can take are listed as well.
So, if I am an Arts stream students interested in pursuing this
programme, it would be impossible for me to fullfill the 2nd
requirement listed.
Hopefully there will be a solution to my confusion as the application
to the IPTA is going to start soon. Thank you in advance for reading
this email and a reply from you as soon as possible is much
appreciated.
Thank you,
Yours sincerely,
Me
And here’s their reply,
This course is open to science students only
Yup, you didn’t read wrongly, that’s all he replied me. Imagine me writing such a long mail and my expectation upon their reply, it’s definitely disappointing. Not even a salutation, not even a thank you or signatories… What sort of formality of replying is this?
Unlike
NUS, here’s one of their reply when I enquired them on the delay of my matric application postage. anyway, I couldn’t post the whole email here as I’m not allowed to disclose that email for another purpose, so here’s the format of their reply. btw, before they replied my email, right after the received my enquiries, they send an automated mail to me with the following content…

You do the comparison yourself, I’m sure you will know why we failed to be in the top of the Best Uni in the world if compared to others. Don’t give silly excuse such as “We didn’t make it to the top because our work is mostly done in Malay, they didn’t evaluate those work published as they are in Malay”… Just look back at the way you build the website that represent you for the world to see and your reply to your enquirer. Shame on you…
